First court hearing of prominent human rights lawyer concerning the suspension of her legal license

Prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh’s court hearing concerning the suspension of her legal license was postponed Sunday by the Iran Bar Association.

Jailed Iranian lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been hauled before the disciplinary tribunal of Iran’s Bar Association, after the judiciary called for the cancellation of her lawyer’s permit.

Sotoudeh’s case was held in one of the rooms at the bar association’s headquarters.

Association board member Ms. Keyhani and a number of other lawyers were overseeing the case, and their final verdict was forwarded to the appeals court to be considered at a later date. more...

Haleh Sahabi lost her life during her father’s funeral

During her father’s funeral, as security agents were attempting to prevent the proceedings, Haleh Sahabi suffered from a heart attack and died.

This morning Haleh Sahabi was in the front of the crowd headed to her father’s funeral service. As the security agents and plainclothes officials turned increasingly violent, Haleh protested against their brutal behavior.

No Information on the Condition of College Professor Reza Sefri

There is no information on the condition of Reza Sefri, teacher and university professor, after his arrest following the raid on his house.

Reza Sefri is held in solitary confinement in the Isfahan Dastgerd Prison and his family has not been informed of his condition.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, his charges include organizing Quran meetings and ignoring the suggestions and pressures by the security forces. more...

Baha’i Citizen Houshang Fanaian Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Prison

Baha’i citizen Houshang Fanaian has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

Baha’i citizen Houshang Fanaian who had been detained in February of last year has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for membership in anti-regime groups.  He has also been sentenced to one year in prison for anti-regime propaganda by membership in facebook and 6 months in prison for insulting the Supreme Leader.

Post-Election Detainee Amir Aslani Still Held in Evin Prison

Post-election detainee, Amir Aslani who holds a masters degree in electrical engineering is still held in Ward 350 of Evin Prison.

One of his charges includes sending emails regarding the ways to increase the use of electricity as a means of protesting the election results.

He was arrested in August of 2009 in front of his workplace and was transferred to an unknown location.

Aslani, 33, spent 185 days in solitary confinement of the IRGC run ward 2A and 70 days in the solitary confinement unit of Ward 209. He was then transferred to the ward 350 general ward. He has been sentenced to 4 years in prison.

One Year Prison Sentence of Sama Nourani Upheld in Appeals Court

The one year prison sentence of education deprived Baha’i student Sama Nourani has been upheld in the appeals court.

The one year prison sentence of Nourani, education deprived student and a member of Committee to Defend Education Rights, who had been detained in 2010, has been upheld.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he was detained in February of 2010 and was released on bail a few months later after being trasnfererd to the IRGC-run Ward 2A. more..
