Iran cuts off opposition leader’s phones

Iran is putting pressure on Mehdi karroubi and his family by cutting off all his telephone connections

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Iranian authorities stepped up pressure on opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi today, one day after placing him under house arrest, by cutting off all his telephone connections including mobile phones.

Ever since opposition leaders announced they are seeking a permit to stage demonstrations on Febraury 14 in support of Arab uprisings, the government has increased the security forces stationed around Karroubi’s home over the past year to isolate him from outside contact. The security officials have told Karroubi’s family that no one will be allowed to visit him, and only his wife, Fatemeh Karroubi, can come and go from the building. more...


Kourosh Zaeim Detained

Kourosh Zaeim, member of Iran National Front, was arrested last night.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed
Kourosh Zaeim, member of Iran National Front, was arrested and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran,  the security forces entered his house and confiscated some of his belongings after searching the place. The reason for the arrest of Zaeim who had been detained on 2 other occasions in the past year is unclear


Fariba Ebtehaj Arrested

As February 14th is approaching, Fariba Ebtehaj was arrested.

Fariba Ebtehaj is the head of Masoumeh Ebtekar’s office. Ebtekar is a member of the Tehran City Council and was an advisor to former president Khatami. In the last 2 days, many people have been detained. Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have requested a permit from the ministry of the interior to stage a demonstration on February 14 (Bahman 25 in Iranian calendar) in support of Arab uprisings.

Peyman Aref Detained

Peyman Aref was arrested on February 11th by the security forces at his house.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed
Student activist and Iran National Front member Peyman Aref has been detained and transferred to an undisclosed location. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, the security forces had entered his house one day earlier but were unable to detain him since he was not home.

The authorities had broken his door in an effort to enter his house. The security forces searched his house and confiscated his personal belongings such as his computer and CDs upon his arrest. There is no information as to his whereabouts. He had been arrested in June of last year and sentenced to one year prison. He was conditionally released in May.


Hossein Mahmoudi and Abbas Shojaei Arrested

Hossein Mahmoudi and Abbas Shojaei, members of the Islamic National Front, were arrested on Wednesday.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed The security forces who had entered their house had told their families that they have been arrested for holding illegal book reading meetings.

The reason for Mahmoudi’s arrest is participation in the classes of the Serat Institution and activities in the Islamic National Front. The Serat Institution had held classes on Dr. Soroush’s books and had been raided by the authorities. Several other individuals were also arrested.


Mohammad Hossein Mahimani Detained

Following the new wave of arrests, Mohammad Hossein Mahimani has been detained in Gorgan.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed He was arrested on February 11th in Gorgan. He is the son of the former governor of the Golestan Province. There is no information as to his whereabouts or the identity of the security forces.

Journalist Nezhat Amirabadian Detained

Another journalist has been detained following the new wave of arrests.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Reformist journalist Nezhat Amirabadian has been detained by the security forces on February 11th. There is no information as to the reason for his arrest. Fourteen journalists have been arrested in the past 3 days.

Yadollah Eslami and Mojtaba Shayesteh Arrested

News agencies have reported that Yadollah Eslami has been arrested.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed According to his family, he was detained on Monday after the security forces referred to a hospital in Tehran. His family had not reported his arrest and they are now concerned about his condition. He was the editor in chief of a banned newspaper and a former representative of the Parliament.

 In another report, Mojtaba Shayesteh has also been detained at his house. He is a member of the Islamic National front and there is no news as to his condition.


Seven Civil Rights and Political Activists Arrested

In the recent days, Mohammad Hossein Sharifzadegan, Omid Mahaddes, Sadreddin Beheshti, Saleh Noghrehkar, Taghi Rahmani, Meysam Mohamamdi and Dr. Mostafa Mirahmadizadeh were arrested by the security forces.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Iranian authorities have stepped up pressure on the opposition with more arrests as the February 14 march proposed by opposition leaders draws closer.

The security forces arrested Dr. Sharifzadegan who was a member of Mousavi’s Presidential Campaign. The reason for his arrest is unclear. He is also the brother in law of Mousavi.

Meysam Mohamamdi, journalist, writer and researcher, has also been arrested for unknown reasons. more...


Abdolnaser Mahimani Detained

Gorgan security forces have arrested the head of the Gorgan House of Press.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Abdolnaser Mahimani, the head of the Gorgan House of Press, was arrested on February 12th. His arrest has taken place after his summons and interrogation and without considering his objections. His nephew, Mohamamd Hossein Mahimani was also arrested on February 12th.

Student Activist Zahra Eftekhari Detained

Another student activist has been arrested in Iran.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Following the new wave of arrests, student activist Zahra Eftekhari has been detained. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, she is a political activist, and a student at Tehran University. She has been transferred to an unknown location.

Student Activist Zahra Sharif Arrested

Pressures have continued on student and political activists as February 14th is approaching.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Zahra Sharif, student activist at Tehran University, has been arrested. She was a member of Mousavi’s Campaign during the elections and is a political activist and student activist. She has been transferred to an unknown location.

Student Activist Javid Fakhrian Arrested

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Javid Fakhrian is a student activist and was detained after appearing at the Intelligence Ministry and several hours of interrogation pursuant to 2 summons orders. He has been transferred to an unknown location. He had also been detained following the disputed presidential elections.

Arrest of 14 Activists in the Past 3 Days

Fourteen journalists, civil rights and political activists have been detained since Wednesday.

Political Prisoners Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj-Aghaei Executed Iranian authorities have stepped up pressure on the opposition with more arrests as the February 14 march proposed by opposition leaders draws closer.

Maziar Khosravi, a journalist for Shargh newspaper, has been arrested at his workplace. There is no information as to the reason for the arrest.

Reformist journalist Nezhat Amirabadian has been detained by the security forces on February 11th. There is no information as to the reason for his arrest. more...
