Nasrin Sotoudeh Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison and Banned From Practicing Law and Leaving the Country for 20 Years

The 26th Branch of the Revolutionary Court under Judge Pir Abassi has sentenced Nasrin Sotoudeh to 11 years Prison and banned her from practicing law and leaving the country for 20 years

1 The 26th branch of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Pirabbasi has issued the heavy verdict and Sotoudeh’s lawyers have been delivered the court’s verdict.

In an interview with RAHANA, her husband Reza Khandan stated that “my wife has been convicted of anti-regime propaganda, acting against national security and failing to wear Islamic cover in a film. Membership in CDHR and some the interviews she has done with the media are among the reasons for her heavy sentence.”

He added that “her lawyers have not received the complete decision of the court yet and when they receive it in the upcoming days, they would be able to provide us with more information. more...


Death Sentence Upheld for Political Prisoner Jafar Kazemi

Jafar Kazemi’s lawyer, Nasim Ghanavi, stated that the appeals court has upheld the death sentence for her client and the 31st branch of the Supreme Court has denied the request for reviewing the case.

1 Jafar Kazemi’s lawyer stated that the appeals court has upheld the death sentence for her client and the 31stbranch of the Supreme Court has denied the request for reviewing the case. The 36thbranch of the Tehran Court of Appeals presided by Hojjatoleslam Zargar has upheld the sentence.   

His lawyer added that her client has been held in solitary confinement for a long time but she was not aware whether he or his family has been put under any other type of pressure. more...


Appeals court increases jail term for Iranian student activist Mohammad Darvishi

The prison term for Mohamamd Darvish, a nursing student at Shahr-e Kord Open University, who was arrested in August has been increased.

Mohammad Darvishi, jailed Iranian student was handed an increased sentence of five years and six months in prison by an Iranian appellate court.

Mohammad Darvishi, a nursing student at Shahr-e Kord Open University, was arrested by Shahr-e Kord intelligence office in August for his role is issuing the student announcement condemning the execution of Farzad Kamangar and four other political prisoners in May. more...


Appeals Court Upheld Emad Bahavar’s Sentence

The Appeals court has upheld the 10 year prison sentence and 10 year ban from political activities, membership in parties and access to cyber space for Emad Bahavar.

Iranian judiciary approved the ten-year imprisonment sentence handed to Emad Bahavar, head of youth branch of the reformist party, Freedom Movement. The appellate court also confirmed the ten-year ban from political activities, membership in parties and access to cyber space that was included in Bahavar’s preliminary sentence.

Emad Bahavar was arrested in December and sentenced to ten years in prison in a preliminary court. He was charged with “membership in the Freedom Movement Organization, collusion to assemble against national security, propaganda against the regime and insulting the leader.”


Detention Warrant Extended for Civil Rights Activist in Sanandaj

The detention warrant has been extended for a month for Yahya Ghavami, a member of the People for Green Kurdistan.

Ghavami who was arrested at the house of death row political prisoner Habib Latifi, has not contacted his family after 20 days of detention.

His case is currently in the 4th branch of the Sanandaj Court under Judge Rostami.

The authorities have arrested close to 20 civil rights activists after Habib Latifi’s execution was halted. The family members of Habib Latifi were released after a few days.


Hojjat Kalashi released and Shahin Zeinali, Reza Kermani, and Arash Keikhosravi transferred to Rajaei Shahr Prison

Hojjat Kalashi, a member of the Pan-Iranist Party, who had been arrested along with Arash Keikhosravi, Shahin Zeinali and Reza Kermani, has been released from prison.

Hojjat Kalashi, the head of the youth branch of the Pan-Iranist Party has been released from the Rajaei Shahr Prison.

According to RAHANA, Reza Kermani, the former secretary general of the group, Arash Keikhosravi, an attorney, and Shahin Zeinali, a political activist and a former member of Office for Consolidating Unity, have been transferred to the security ward of Rajaei Shahr Prison and have not contacted anyone since. more...
