Recently Converted Christian Citizen Mehdi Foroutan Held Incommunicado

There has been no information on the condition or whereabouts of the recently converted Christian citizen Mehdi Foroutan.

1 RAHANA: Last Sunday, 4 plainclothes agents entered the house of Mehdi Foroutan and searched his house after detaining him. They confiscated some of his personal belongings such as computer, CD and books and transferred him to an undisclosed location.

Despite referrals to the security and judicial organizations, no information has been released regarding his whereabouts. His family has gone to the Evin prison but the authorities have not responded and have failed to confirm whether he has been arrested.

Foroutan has been able to call his family twice but apparently he has not been able to talk about his whereabouts.


Iranian-Dutch citizen Zahra Bahrami has been sentenced to death

Zahra Bahrami an Iranian-Dutch citizen and one of the detainees of Ashura has been sentenced to death

1 After one year of temporary detention, Zahra Bahrami has been sentence to death. She spent months at ward 209 of Evin prison and solitary confinement following her arrest on December 27 2009.

According to RAHANA reporter, this sentence was announced to her lawyer , Zhinus Sharif Razi, whom states: ” This sentence was issued by judge Salavati of Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court.”

Zhinus Sharif Sobhani stated the charges for which Zahra Bahrami was sentence to death during her trial held on December 7 2010 include “transportation and sales of Drug substances”.

Four Prisoners Transferred to Quarantine Section of Oroumiyeh Prison

This morning, Habibollah Golparipour, Hossein Mirzaei, Ali-Ahmad Soleiman and Ahmad Tamouei, were transferred to the Quarantine Section of Oroumiyeh Prison.

RAHANA: There is no information as to the reason for the transfer of Habibollah Golparipour, Hossein Mirzaei, Ali-Ahmad Soleiman and Ahmad Tamouei, to the Quarantine Section of Oroumiyeh Prison.

Habibollah Golparipour was sentenced to death by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on April 23, 2010 for Moharebeh(waging war against God) by propaganda and membership in an anti-regime group. He has been confined for a year and has been transferred to the Oroumiyeh Prison from Mahabad Prison.

Hossein Mirzaei has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for collaborating with anti-regime groups and Ahmad Tamouei has been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment for collaborating with a Kurdish group.

Ali Ahmad Soleimani is currently held in prison limbo.


Tehran University Student Hassan Jolani Held Incommunicado

Hassan Jolani, a top mathematics student at Tehran University, was arrested on November 2nd by the plainclothes agents and is held in prison limbo.

1 He had previously been detained on December 7, 2009 and released after 4 months.

He had been threatened and harassed by the authorities several times and had been deprived of pursuing his PhD.


Reza Sharifi-Boukani Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prison

The Revolutionary Court has sentenced Reza Sharifi-Boukani to 3.5 years in prison.

1 The Revolutionary Court has sentenced Reza Sharifi-Boukani to 3.5 years in prison. Two of his court sessions were held in the past week.

According to RAHANA, he has been convicted of membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and acting against national security.

He has been deprived of having a lawyer and has only been present during the second court hearing.

Boukani was in solitary confinement of Ward 209 of Evin Prison since May. He was transferred to the Karaj Rajaei Shahr Prison and is in currently held in Ward 2 of the Prison.


Two Sunni Citizens Arrested

The security forces have arrested two Kurdish followers of the Sunni faith.

1 Osman Ebadi and Yasmin Ghaderi are the followers of Ahmad Moftizadeh’s Quranic school of thought.  They were arrested on Tuesday December 3rd in the city of Baneh.

After the raid on their house, their personal belongings such as their computer, documents and computer were confiscated.

There is no information on the alleged charges and their whereabouts.


Political Activist Keyvan Samimi Tried Once Again

On Wednesday February 5th, Keyvan Samimi was taken to the Revolutionary Court and tried.

1 RAHANA: Keyvan Samimi and several other prisoners had requested that an International Investigation Committee be formed in a letter which is the reason for his trial.

Keyvan Samimi had been a political prisoner in the previous regime and was the Editor in Chief of a banned monthly magazine.

He was also a member of the Civil Rights Protection Committee, Committee to Follow-up on Arbitrary Arrests and the Education Rights Committee.

Keyvan Samimi was arrested on June 13th, 2009.  He spent 4 months in solitary confinement and was later sentenced to 6 years in prison and a life time ban from political activities.


Mahdieh Golrou and Bahareh Hedayat allowed visitors

Mahdieh Golrou and Bahareh Hedayat were able to visit their families after being banned from prison visits for 2 weeks.

Behareh Hedayat and Mehdieh Golrou, the two jailed student activists who were barred by Iranian judiciary from having any visitors were finally allowed a prison visit from their husbands yesterday.

After a three-week information blackout, the families of the two activists were allowed to visit them in prison.

The two activists had issued separate messages from prison on the occasion of National Student Day in December which aroused adverse reactions from Iranian prison authorities. more...


Intelligence Ministry Agents Raided Majid Tavakoli’s Residence in Shiraz

Following the pressure on Majid Tavakoli to take a stance against the Green Movement and its leaders, several Shiraz Intelligence Ministry agents raided his father’s house.

They confiscated his books, CDs, notes and computer after destroying the equipment.

Ali Tavakoli, his brother, was also summoned to the Intelligence Ministry and released after several hours of interrogation. The authorities treated his family in an offensive manner and destroyed the equipment in the house even though what they did was against the law.

Previously, Majid Tavakoli had been summoned to the Prosecutor’s office along with Bahareh Hedayat and Mahdieh Golrou and a new case was filed for them. He was put under severe pressure to take a stance against the Green Movement leaders and to deny the authenticity of the letters published under his name. The court has issued him a $200,000 bail.


Pressure Intensified on Baha’i Citizens

Two arrests, a conviction and a summons order are the recent pressures of Islamic Republic on Baha’i citizens living in Iran.

In continuing the trend of increased persecution on Baha’is in Mazandaran, Mahin Taj Rouhani who is a Baha’i citizen in Sari city, was arrested on Saturday, January 1st.

This arrest was done after searching her house completely by security officials in Sari city.

She had previously been summoned by a phone call to the Ministry of Intelligence on December 19th. She had been summoned under the pretext of answering some questions at the Ministry of Intelligence for not having the documents of her mobile SIM card. more...
